Comments
Comments: Beautiful day in the Carter range and a terrific hike on this loop. It helped that we were mostly well equipped. Imp, Carter Dome (below Zeta Pass) and Nineteen-Mile Brook Trails were all thick ice sheets. We were able to scale up most of Imp with microspikes, with one short section that required crampons. The ridge had an unstable snowpack - postholing season has begun up there. We were wishing we had carried our snowshoes up. We were ok in microspikes for about .4 miles going down Carter Dome Trail below Zeta Pass. We hiked out in crampons most of the way down and the snow and ice were stable enough to make this a good strategy. The only challenge was with the water crossings in traction, as the snow bridges had broken.
