Comments
Comments: The Pine Bend Brook Trail up to the Wilderness boundary is solid with breakable icy crust. Once the slope steepens uphill from the Wilderness boundary there is an icy crust that breaks in to plates with about 3 to 6 inches of powdery icy snow beneath which provides negligible gripping surface for traction. The lowest layer is solid and often ice. The steep ascent of North Tripyramid summit cone had better footing with some bypasses off trail to avoid the iciest ledge sections. The trail between North Tripyramid and Middle Tripyramid was solid and made for a quick back and forth between the peaks.
Great views from many spots along this hike. Lots of hikers on the mountain today including an AMC group and SBANKS.
