Bluebird day on the Tripyramids! The first section of Livermore Road is groomed for xcski, which makes for easy walking to the bridge. Beyond that, trail is breakable crust snow with 1-2" of powder underneath. Scaur Ridge Trail in similar condition until right turn at small water crossing, snow was soft and slippery on the way down in the afternoon sun. The rest of the trails to North and Middle Tripyramid have 2-3" of new snow, but with all the traffic today either in microspikes or snowshoes, Pine Bend and Mt. Tripyramid Trail are nice and packed. Only in the steepest sections before North Tripyramid does a little bit of ice show, but there when I went through there was plenty of snow cover for good traction. Wore microspikes from car to car, but could have chosen snowshoes for the ridge. After today's traffic, there might not be a need for them. |
