| Water Crossing Notes: |
I avoided water crossings by using the High water bushwhack/snow mobile bridges as noted in the AMC White Mountain Guide, basically by taking a sharp left into the woods before the first crossing head up the east side of Thompson brook and you will see bridge take a right and cross 2nd bridge then left into woods bushwhack up the west side of the Spruce brook and you will meet the trail. Crossings were flowing high with thin ice. |

Socked in summit on Garfield with no views ,used spikes about 2 miles into the hike then was starting to sink into breakable snow so put snow shoes on, to the summit. The trail had been broken out nicely form beginning to end , the bushwhack was broken out too which made it easy for me. Higher elevation snow was gorgeous , about 4 to 5 inches and it was snowing while I hiked, made a nice snow shoe path over the the one that was there to summit---No ice on Garfield ridge trail. Had to take my snow shoes off to climb up to the cement fire tower--the real summit ;) --was windy and no views but nonetheless BEAUTIFUL. Great day out with me myself and I. Did not see anyone at all, did see 2 chipmunks---and a car was parked behind me when I finished--maybe they did the whole galehead traverse as I did not see any hikers coming down |
