Moriah, plus the Imp shelter, over two days
Word of the day is ICE. Lots of it. Ascent up Stony Brook was nearly completely ice until about 2800', then stretches of packed snow/loose granular. Steeper stretches were ice, tricky for sure. Sharp crampons and poles for balance highly recommended. Ours was a two-day trip, day 1 to Moriah summit then to Imp shelter for the overnight. Several inches snow overnight, then sticky/wet snow made things more tricky since we would often slide on anything but the flattest ice terrain. Decided not to continue over the Carters for day 2, instead opting to descend Stony Brook. |
