I carried my skis up the trail. Soft ice on the bottom half and packed snow on the upper. Nice to meet John & Pepper, Jeb, Hiker Ed and more friends coming down the trail as I was going up. Congratulations to Hiker Ed for completing his 4th round of everyday in a calendar year. I confess I bare booted all the way up, the ice was soft and roughed up by everyone else's spikes that I never bothered to put them on. I had the summit to myself and watched the weather blow in complete with snow. I put on my AT boots, skis and skis and had a blast skiing and skinning over to the ski area. Just one small blowdown but it was easy to ski over. I took my skins off at the top of High Country and the skied down True Grit--great snow. Snow changed to rain about half way down the mountain (I did get a lift ticket before hiking up the trail). I usually do this outing in early April after the ski area has closed. |
