Hiked up Sabbaday Brook trail. Scarce trail markings, but 1 other party had gone up before us that day, so we were able to follow their footprints. Several tricky water crossings on Sabbaday Brook trail, as there were no snow bridges or ice. Had to walk around a bit to find ways to cross. Three or 4 water crossings were done by scooting on large logs, as they were too icy to walk/balance on. Smaller crossings were done by rock hopping. Hiking poles were super helpful for this. Last ~ 3/4 mile of the trail was steep and icy, but manageable in microspikes and shortened hiking poles. Hike down Pine Bend Brook trail was tricky for first 3/4 mile, as it was steep and icy. Bypassed large ice bulges by bushwhacking through the trees. Glissading on the steeper snowy sections was super fun. Last part of the trail was flat-ish and fast, stream crossings were much more manageable than on Sabbady Brook trail. Hiked out last mile back to the parking lot on the Kanc. Gorgeous sunny day with very little wind! |
