Comments
Comments: I expected far worse conditions and actually conditions were good. Low down on Dicey Mills to the stream was mostly ice which sharp spikes were essential. Some bare ground but not bad. Above the river hard packed snow and some ice was the norm. The last two pitches up Passaconaway required care. I used sharp Hillshound spikes car to car and they were fine. I spoke with two groups that had come up Blueberry Ledges. Both said it was very difficult with the ice on the ledges. One person broke his micros on the ledges. Our plan had been to do an out an back on Rollins trail to the summit of Whiteface. I carried crampons and an ice ax just in case we changed our mind and ascended Blueberry Ledges. We did Rollins out and back. There is plenty of ice in the usual places on that trail so it was slow going. But all in all given the amount of rain, I thought the conditions were good. 46 of 48 for Single Season and a fine day with good views!!
