 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Avoided the crossings by taking the 2 bridges. Nice having that option here today. Talked to a couple who had crossed brook and they said they had to hit a pointed rock with ice to get across. That pointed rock would've been a longer leap on way out. Only time in several Garfield hikes I've even thought of crossings being an issue. Fast & deep flow. |

 | Comments: |
I used rock spikes entire hike. Thought for sure I'd need to beef up at some point but the ice floes were mostly in the sun and had a nice soft surface. More aggressive traction would've been quicker on the Garfield Ridge Tr. and coming down on some of the ice. Trails divided into 3 conditions for the most part. Road and up to the crossings--minimal snow & hardly any ice. Crossings to switchbacks--mix of packed snow and breakable ice with quite a bit of water. Switchbacks on up--either a nice snow pack or ice floes. Winds picking up in the afternoon were covering spots of ice. Tracks headed over to Galehead. Killer views today! |
