ICE was the word of the day. Hillsounds the means of transportation. 19MBT is a ribbon of ice to the Carter Dome Trail. Talked with someone who hiked to the hut. He said it was the same to the notch and up the CMT to the Dome. Up the Carter Dome Trail to the last water crossing was all ice covered with minimal snow. From the last water crossing to Zeta pass all exposed ice. Huge ice bulges just below the pass. CMT to the Dome was packed powder on top of ice. Smooth sailing with good traction. No need for snow shoes. Some carried but none were used. I did an out and back to Hight on the south spur trail. Still packed powder and easy walking. Didn't want to try the north spur descent but others did. My only thought about all the ice was that it might be wise to carry a backup pair of spikes. It would be dangerous to descend with only one boot spiked should there be a problem.
