Comments
Comments: Started in micros, they were doable for the whole trip - some tricky ice on the two steep pitches on lower Webster-Jackson, very doable with some scouting and careful foot placement. We were surprised by how much new snow there was with all the recent rain - it was only a few inches in spots but it got packed out and stuck to the underlying ice well. Steep pitch heading to the summit had bare rock and ice but very doable, heading to the hut the path of choice just below the summit stays a bit right of the real trail. Some deeper drifts between Jackson and the hut but packed out with boot prints - the stretches weren't really long enough to warrent snowshoes. The snow and ice heading up to Pierce and over to Eisenhower softened in the sun and made for decent footing. Saw many people on the way to Eisenhower, most in spikes but some in crampons, either would be a good choice - snowshoes got a free ride today and got ditched for the trip to Eisenhower and back. Crawford Path not surprisingly was a packed sidewalk, some ice but nothing worse than what we had seen earlier. Great day with blue skies, good views and tolerable wind - thanks Ali and Hannah for another great day and great to see Roberta again on the trails.
