Comments: Great hiking conditions all the way up the Ammo to the hut. Trail is nicely packed and easily hiked with microspikes to Gem Pool. Above Gem pool, choice of traction is up to the hiker. Some preferred snowshoes with televators for the steepness, others wanted more traction the just microspsikes would provide and wore various types of crampons. Once ice bulge about .4 above Gem Pool is a little tricky, but has several options. All other ledges covered in packed snow. Near the iciest ledges in the scrub near treeline the trail has been broken to the right, around the worst areas, so the going was easy.

From the hut to the summit of Monroe, ground conditions were ice/rime ice and snow, but not a well broken track to the summit. With the groups that went up and down today, the track where there is snow should be good. At least until tomorrow and Thursday's precipitation.

Weather started sunny and clear, but we were inside the cloud with increasing winds by the time we got to the hut. Visibility to Monroe was poor, much like being inside a ping pong ball. Although we did not continue on the ridge as planned to Ike and Pierce, it was still a fun and excellent trip to Monroe with Schorman, LadyDi and HikingGuy.

Nice to see Sarah, Adam, Allie and Hannah out having a great hike, plus it was nice to chat with Robie G. and a few others at the hut!
