Comments
Comments: The surface was hard packed snow or frozen slush up to Mt Pierce. Microspikes fine for the hike up Mt Pierce. The Crawford Path beyond Mt Pierce alternated between stretches with an accumulation of snow and open ledges with a thin layer of hard packed snow or ice. The Eisenhower Loop trail had some icy spots. I saw some indications of slippage (probably from the use of light traction). I used crampons without any slips. The log ladders and steps on Eisenhower Loop were partially visible. Nobody had hiked on the Crawford Path north of the junction with Eisenhower Loop. The trail was obvious in the scrub areas with boot holes in the deeper snow pack. The trail was less evident on the hard snow/ice surfaces in the open areas. The traction devices left only hen scratches in these spots. The wind was covering up the track in places. The cairns were visible for guidance.
Many hikers out today. there were three groups of hikers from Bartlett. Walked a good portion of the trail to Mt Pierce with Trevor and Greg from Manchester. Saw the Harvard Outing Club who had camped out at the Nauman tent site.
