| Comments: |
Varied conditions today - patchy ice on the road walk, bare ground at the start of the real trail, ice started a few tenths in and was soft and slushy on the surface and easy to navigate. Snow started just above the herd path with better coverage at the start of the switchbacks. Increasing depths as we gained elevation, probably 6-8" partially consolidated up high, no real drifts to speak of. We wore micros from the car to halfway up the switchbacks, then changed to snowshoes and kept them on until almost at the bottom of the switchbacks - fortunately most of the other people we saw today were also wearing snowshoes up high which made for a lovely track. Steep parts on the ridge trail were fine, no ice to speak of. No views but wind wasn't quite as bad as forecasted. Saw about a dozen other people enjoying the day. Great hike with true four season conditions experienced - thanks Ali and Hannah for another good day! |
