Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked on the side of Ravine Lodge Road just before the gate within sight of route 118. No other vehicles today. The road in the parking area had been sanded. I had no problem going up the short distance. Parking space for perhaps ten or so vehicles.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Blue, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction, Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Significant water crossings have bridges, so no problem
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The log railing on the uppermost bridge has fallen over. The three log wide bridge itself is fine. A few small trees in or across trail but they cause absolutely no problem. The trail around the new DOC structures is unmarked. I hiked on the brook side of the new building to get to the bridge.

Comments
Comments: I was surprised nobody else hiked the Gorge Brook Trail today. I had the eastern side of the mountain to myself today. I picked this hike since there would be no unbridged water crossings nor any icy steep ledges to ascend (hazards to avoid based on the White Mountain postings in the past couple of days). I wore Kahtoola K10 crampons the entire distance which provided excellent traction in the icy areas on this hike. There were no bare surfaces on the Road or the trail. Snow depths were a foot or less at the lower elevations. Higher up there were a few drift spots that had over a foot. The surface was generally hard packed so snowshoes weren't required. A lot of icy ledges in the open ledges around the summit. The orange summit sign was back. There is also an orange sign for the Gorge Brook Trail (not the AT) on the alpine tableland southeast of the summit. It was great to talk with Brewster at the summit. He had ascended via Glencliff Trail. Panoramic views to the Green Mountain chain, Franconia Range, and Mt Washington today.
