Ice and bare ground for the first mile, ice and snow for the second mile, packed snow the last mile up to the ridge and along the carriage road (with some choppiness and old postholes) until treeline then ice again. Sharp microspikes worked fine on the ice without any issues.
Weather in the early morning was perfect and I had the best for views I've ever had on the Moose, views forever - could see the ADK's Mount Whiteface and the Great Range to the west. Stopped at the south summit too, great little side trip, well worth the minimal effort. Great morning hike with Kyle. |
