| Comments: |
The trail is dry and ice free until it climbs up to the first crossings. I put on Hillsounds at the first crossings as the ice was increasing and it was hard to get around it. I had sharpened my Hillsounds recently and they were adequate going up. Ice bulges are quite considerable after the jct. to Bald Peak. Some might prefer full crampons. In two places I followed side paths to avoid the steepest sections of ice that covered all the trail. Once the trail slabs to the south before turning up east to the ridge is mostly well packed snow cover. The KRT to North Kinsman has some steep ice sections but the Hillsounds were adequate. Going over to South Kinsman was well packed and no problems. My snowshoes stayed on the pack. |
