Comments
Comments: Was expecting tons of ice after the rain we had on Tuesday, but was pleasantly surprised to find the trail mostly hard-packed snow. Occasional ice flows and patches here and there, but all easily avoided (or walked on with light traction). No snowshoes needed - could be barebooted, but I wouldn't recommend that.... microspikes made the trip a pleasant hike. Cone of Liberty had quite a bit of ice and was the trickiest bit of the entire trip, but nothing too difficult and easily walked on while holding on to bushes and rocks. Winter is still going strong up in the peaks.... not like previous years, but plenty of rime, frost, and ice on the trees today. Cold, too - extra layers were appreciated! Started at 1 PM and reached the summit at 3:30. Hung out for sunset, then headed down - back to car at 7. Great day in the peaks.
