Comments
Comments: Road walk was mostly bare. Gale River was soft ice and water to start, then ice. As the trail turned steeper, breakable crust with corn snow underneath about an inch deep all the way to the top of Galehead. Trail had been sledded prior to storm so it was firm and bath tubbed where steep. Expecting more ice on Twinway I left my snowshoes at the hut and wore crampons. Good choice where steep but I had to tip toe near the top of South Twin to avoid punching through too much. In hindsight, snowshoes would have been a better choice for the last third.
