Comments
Comments: Great day for #31 with Bear! Packed powder on the trail. Bare-booted all the way to the summit without trouble, although the section above treeline was very icy and I wished my traction was already on. I definitely put my crampons on before I headed back down (I'm sure micros would have been fine, I just don't have any at the moment!). I just kept the crampons on the entire way down, but they weren't necessary. They added a little bit of grip in some spots where the angle and the snow could have made things slippery, but I'm sure it wouldn't have been terrible barebooting down (AFTER getting back to treeline). One couple out there besides me. They had a dog too. Looks like they used microspikes all day. I did take the spur to South Summit, although I was breaking trail, looks like others have not opted to do this. Easy jaunt, 6" snow at most I'd say. Nice views from South Summit. Of course, gorgeous, panoramic views from Moose - wish we could have stayed longer!! 50+ mph gusts, wind chills about -20. Once back under treeline it was fine. Once I was back on Glencliff headed down I had to remove layers. Awesome day!
