|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Traction, Ice Axe |
|

A few running drainage flows unfrozen toward the beginning of Tuck's Trail |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Sign at the junction of Lion's Head Trail and Alpine Garden Trail had some unreadable mileages. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
I saw one dog who went up and down the Lion's Head winter route with his owner. Not sure how this was possible considering the steep grade. |

Absent. |
|

Black metal water bottle hanging on a tree on the left side of the LHWR on the descent, about 3/4 of the way to the avalanche cache box. |

| Comments: |
I saw a few hiking parties on the mountain, despite conditions not being great today. Tucks trail has a few inches of fresh powder, and was well broken by the time of my descent. Several tracks on the LHWR already, which was helpful as a first-timer on this route. Crampons and ice axe necessary for this section up to the summit. From Lion's head up, the wind had picked up and it was snowing. This made cairns hard to spot from below as snow had built up on the downward sides. Any tracks had nearly disappeared from drifting snow. A few sections of knee+ deep drifts, but partially broken and easy to follow.
Temps were 15-20° below, 0° at summit. Unsure of wind speeds, but probably 30mph or so from the NW. Tailwind on the way down was nice. |
