Pretty much same report as those of Saturday except the trail is showing wear due to the recent traffic. Started in light traction on a semi-firm surface and we wore them just beyond the crossing. Snow conditions turned to mashed potatoes and began balling up underfoot so we switched to snowshoes which proved to solve that problem plus being quicker and better traction. Wore snowshoes all the way back through the BW and changed back to light traction for the return to the car. Although the 5th crossing was covered it will probably deteriorate with the warm weather of the next few days, heard some cracking as we crossed, great care should be used and there seemed to be only one narrow area that was safe, even today. Great to see and hike with Waumbek again and to see Old Man on the ridge. |
