Wore snowshoes at the start because of a few inches of new snow. Kept those on until the hut; switched to Hillsounds to climb Monroe. Was a little slick and unstable, so switched to Katoola crampons to ascend Mount Washington. With these, both Sunshine and I felt super stable and easily crossed the tricky spots up Mt. Wash. and kept these on for the descent down to Gem Pool as well (switch backed to snowshoes). Saw people wearing everything- microspikes, snowshoes, crampons. Was a great day to get up high- low winds, pretty warm temps, and a fantastic view as a bonus! |
