Comments
Comments: Larry and I wore HHP crampons from the car to the Avalon col, then switched to snowshoes for the remainder of the hike. The trail was already well packed out (which allowed for a 5:45 hike), and surprisingly not punched-up much by bare-booters, given its nearness to the HC. Even with the recent strong winds no new drifting anywhere (hope that will be the case on the Carters later this week). The wind was strongest in the PL at the start of the hike, and not an issue up on the ridge, both because it wasn't near as strong as forecast, and because of the warmth of the air (is it really winter?).
