Comments
Comments: Snowshoes car to car today - Rocky Branch was well packed out, probably could have used micros but we appreciated having televators - a few small bony patches but not as bad as we were expecting. A few small open areas with running water shortly before the bushwhack but all crossed with care. Engine Hill bushwhack was completely tracked out and easy to follow, but took a much higher contour than in previous years. There were some parts of the bushwhack through the swampy areas that were barely frozen over - we managed well in snowshoes but micros might have led to some postholing and cold wet feet. Good consolidated track past the campsites up to the summit - great views and very little wind, nice day for a lengthy summit break. We debated taking the real trails back instead of the bushwhack to avoid the PUD and because the real trails were also broken out, but decided we'd rather deal with the PUD than potential tricky water crossings and the stream-in-the-trail section of Rocky Branch - quick trip out so it was a good call. Had the trails to ourselves on this wonderful day - thanks Ali and Hannah for another fun Iso hike!
