Comments
Comments: Another winter night hike form the list. This one solo. left the car at 6:00PM, 5F, clear and light winds. Once I confirmed that the track was firm enough not to be disturbed by micros, I stayed in them up and back. Hiked all but 10 minutes going up the ridge trail just by moonlight and the headlamp stayed in the packthe entire rest of the hike. Flushed a grouse low on the ridge trail. Didn't see it till it flew off from just two feet away and spooked the shit out of me. Summit at 8:45: -9F an N-NE 20+. Back to the cabin for a dry change-out and then back to the car by 10:40 (-4F). Such a treat to hike by moonlight, especially up high with all the incredible contrast of light and shadow in the trees. Was tempted to do Madison-Adams, but the forecast was a bit too cold for me to feel comfortable solo for that much time above treeline (turned out to be even colder than forecasted, so just as well). Only a couple left that I'll probably do solo, so this one was a special night out.
