| Lost and Found: |
I lost a snow basket on the first mile of the Garfield trail; when I bumped into 'Pepper and Me' near the summit (they were descending), I asked them to look for it and, if found, leave it near where their car was parked since I had seen it at the closed gate; they connected with another hiker who had found the basket; I eventually met that hiker, too, on my descent and was happy I could thank him in person. When I returned to the gate, I felt like I was on an easter egg hunt. Eventually, I spotted the basket hanging on a branch with a pink cord--it made me laugh--wonderful decoration! Thank you Pepper and Me! |

| Comments: |
trail in good shape; several hikers bare-booted all the way to the summit; I opted for snowshoes when snow got too powdery; they were handy higher up, especially descending the steep section to the summit; hardly any ice to speak of; never used microspikes; bare-booted when not using snowshoes; several snow mobiles were on gale river road on my way back to the car
cold but lovely day in the Whites--360 views and hardly a breeze on the summit |
