Thursday, January 21, 2016 |
|
| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
2 cars on way in besides ours, just ours when we came out well past dark. Nicely plowed out. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Only did the last crossing, bypassing the other two, although there was some evidence of others doing all three. The crossing was not fully iced over, with a bit of exposed water visible, but easily stepped over. Some snow might hide the two steps with no ice. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Just one blowdown, easily ducked under on the way up, and sledded under on the way down. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Didn't see any, but did see where Cole, the Wonderpup, had left some little tracks. |
|
| Bugs: |
none |
|
| Lost and Found: |
one corner of a wrapper, we disposed of it after the hike in a proper manner. |

| Comments: |
Trail was good all the way to about .75 miles from the summit. We micro spiked it to there, then the lead hiker broke out drifts in snowshoes while two of our group stayed in micros. Pretty sure it all drifted back in overnight with the winds that we left up there. We sledded down a lot of the trail on the way out, probably over a mile, so trail is pretty packed. Another two groups had done the whole loop, Twins to Galehead and out Gale River before us (big thanks and fist bumps for breaking trail before we came, left it in mint condition for us). Probably 4+ feet of drifts on the tops, did break through once and bottomed out without hitting anything solid under my foot. |
