 | Comments: |
I wore snowshoes the entire day. Bicknell ridge and the circle trail along the ridge were unbroken. Trail breaking was easy, except where there were high drifts above treeline. An ice axe helped on some of the scrambles, but was not essential. The surface conditions were great above treeline.
I went up Bicknell ridge and over N. Baldface to South Baldface. From S. Baldface I dropped down to the Sable col. This was easy walking as it is above the trees and snow covered most obstacles and vegetation. I made an open woods bushwhack up to the North end of Sable ridge and along the ridge to the highpoint. I then followed my tracks back to the north end of the ridge, where I turned off to shoot for the Eastman col. I went a little too far north and had to deal with a steep decent. The woods were great lower down and I hit the col. right near the junction. Slippery brook trail was broken out.
This was an amazing hike on a beautiful winter day. |
