Comments
Comments: Al wore 'shoes, mostly for traction. I started out in them, switched to microspikes. Neither were really adequate. Snow up high was often a powdery 6", but ledges are covered with a thick coat of ice. Really needed full crampons, which haven't used in years. Due to the thick ice under the unbonded snow, progress was very slow - it was also very cold and windy. We managed North; scrapped plans for south due to the late hour. Who knows what conditions are now with the new storm, but it was one of the sketchiest hikes I've done in years. We slipped/fell/butt-slipped/grasped shubbery most of the way down to jct with Bald Knob.
