We wore light traction (Hillsounds/Microspikes) from the 19 Mile trail head to the junction with Wildcat Ridge Trail. Trail is pretty well packed from hut traffic. Switched to snowshoes for the Wildcat Ridge Trail as it looked like no one had gone that way since the most recent snowfall. A few rocks here and there still sticking up, but mostly easy going in the snowshoes. There was powder over ice in the upper portion before the summit of A, just a few tricky spots, but not as bad as bare ice. For the rest of the ridge, the snow depth was about 6" average, with deeper drifts in some spots. Plenty of ice hiding under the snow on the steeper decent sections between A and D.
Of course, all that could change with the incoming weather tomorrow.
Stayed just under the clouds all day, nice temps and barely any wind. Fun day out with Schorman. |
