The night project continues. With my oldest, Dana, we left the Ammy parking lot at 5:00PM. Clear, calm winds and 25F. Thin trail cover down low with most of the exposed rocks being ice-covered. Car to car with micros, but almost switched out to crampons on some of the ledges above Gem Pool. Summitted Monroe at 7:30 under clear skies and crazy stars. Down and over to Washington, the drifted areas were now hardpack with postholes to avoid. Washington by 8:45, low teens and wind 10-15....about as good as it gets for the date. Changed out for dry bottom layer and then motored down. Saw my first fellow hiker since I started the project on Crawford Path. He was attempting to be the 2nd to do the hut-to-hut traverse in a day in the winter. He was low on food, so we passed off a couple of bars and watched him head towards Madison. Back at the car by 11:45 and in Boston by 2:30. So great to get these two on such a beautiful night and with the best company possible. |
