| Water Crossing Notes: |
crossing of downes brook was a little sketchy. far from fully frozen, but enough ice to compicate things. heading upstream on rocks and snow it was easy to get about haflway across, but the deeper channel on the other side was tricky. i opted to step in about six inches of water to a submerged rock to make the hardest step as i did not trust the ice. |

| Comments: |
the trails were well packed out, but i still opted for snowhoes for traction. mostly packed snow down low with minor ice and exposed rock up high. where the sun hits the open ledges the snow was sticky with some ice under it in places. summit views were very nice today. probably one of the best places i know of to get a good look at the often elusive captain. on the descent i opted to follow fr511 from where the trail crosses it down to the kanc to avoid the return crossing of downes brook. nice quick walk with crusty snow and some previous foot prints. a short walk along the kanc led back to the car. lots of moose activity along the edge of the road on that long straight away west of downes brook. |
