| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Only two cars there on the way in, none on the way out. Empty lot for such a golden opportunity to nail Isolation in the winter. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery, Slush |
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Probably crossed that river more times than necessary. There are no blazes, and multiple outlets from the rivers where people have crossed in the past. We made 3 fewer crossings on the way back down. With trekking poles and high top waterproof boots, we made it across them all, although it took some planning. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Some blowdowns quite early on the trail, surprised to see them. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
| Bugs: |
none |
| Lost and Found: |
a pair of sunglasses in the mud - we placed them on a tree near the spot we found them. |

| Comments: |
Thought we'd find some camping spots by Engine hill; nothing flat or dry. Instead we stayed on the old ruined Rocky Branch Shelter for the night. It rained / sleeted the entire night. Woke up to the entire campsite being covered in a sheet of ice. It took some time thawing out, and the early part of our descent was rather slippery. Due to the light ice, moving water on the trail, and dry rock hops, we could not utilize traction for very long. It will become more useful as more of a freeze sets in. At this stage, there's no need for the bushwhack. You can summit this one on the recommended trails. |
