| Dog-Related Notes: |
Plenty of dogs, we all had ours (ranging from seasoned hiker to first 4K) and met several more doing very well. Water sources, absence of technical sections, and moderate grade + footing made this a great one for them. |

Excellent, non-December-ish day hiking the Moose. Hoping to have time for a full report (that will be at pawsonpeaks.com) but in case I don't, reporting on conditions for the folks considering this loop.
Dry trail towards the start/end (once the road walk is completed) with only some damp or muddy sections in there. Donned micros in the woods past the Snapper/Gorge Brook junction. Took them off too early, between the last view point and treeline. Doable without but I wouldn't recommend it. I would call micros a must for descending via Carriage Trail, though it did turn to slush and dirt (like a melting ski trail) after awhile before the trail narrowed and the grade lessened. We saw plenty of people w/o them (some had poles, others, just their balance) but it was far easier and safer with them on. The summit itself is pretty bare of ice/snow, only some buildup where the wind blew it. |
