| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of parking at the Hancock Overlook on the Kanc when I arrived at 8:15. Looks like it filled up during the day. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Slush |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
No problems. All of the crossings are very low right now. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Just a couple of minor stepover blowdowns along the way. This was my first time on the CBT re-reroute, and it's pleasant walking with nice soft footing. Dropping down from South Peak has always been eroded, but it's gotten worse. :( |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Sure. I saw a couple. Lots of water on this route. |
|
| Bugs: |
Nope. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Santa has left a red bow at each of the summits. |

A return to the Hancocks, hadn't been out here in three years. Just like I remembered, a nice easy warm up before being slammed with steep! Trails were wet, a mix of mud, running water, snow, ice and slush. No need for traction down low, but I put it on at the summit of North Peak and kept it on all the way down to the loop split. The ridge is icy and spikes helped. The South Link has more ice than the North Link. Still a lot of rocks poking up though, we need some snow. Nice views from each of the outlooks as the weather was better than forecast. A very warm day for mid-December, I didn't don a jacket all day, even at the summits. Lots of people out today! |
