Lots of available parking at the Basin lot (southbound) mid-day though a lot of cars coming and going - mostly visitors to The Basin which was spectacular, as always!!!! |

Ice - Black, Wet/Slippery Rock, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow - Spring Snow, Slush |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
yikes - Cascade Brook crossings were VERY slippery on slush/snow on tops of rocks. Luckily, not icy but still, very slippery. I slid a few times. Lots of crossings. Also, I had forgotten that Kinsman Pond Trail is really just a streambed in the middle sections; VERY tedious climbing on the slippery rocks in between the mud/running water. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Here and there, a few blowdowns, though nothing major. I picked up quite a few twigs and fallen branches on my way up & down. |

| Comments: |
Terrific afternoon hike after a really fun morning snowboarding at Cannon. Trails were quite a challenge to hike - a real slush-fest. Glad I had microspikes for which I put on above the shelter and really needed up the big flat scrambles up to the summit. Glad I also chose to wear the winter boots which I then determined were enjoying their last hike EVER as soon as they took on water at the first stream crossing. The trails didn't have enough snow for snowshoeing but unless a lot of snow fills in, the trails will set up pretty rough and icy. Trace of snow at base but 4-5" of fresh snow up high. Amazing views!!!! |
