Peaks
Peaks Mt. Garfield, NH
Trails
Trails: Garfield Trail, Garfield Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, December 5, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The road was slick from the sticky wet snow getting packed down - it was warm and if it gets below freezing the road will be tricky. The gate may end up getting closed.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Slush
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings are open. We were able to easily cross them by hopping rock to rock - the temperature was warm enough to keep them wet instead of icy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are a few blowdowns along the way but all are easily ducked under/stepped over.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We had a dog with us and she did great.
Bugs
Bugs: There were no bugs.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing lost or found.

Comments
Comments: Led this one with the Random Group of Hikers. The lower portion of Mount Garfield Trail is a mix of mud, leaves, and slush. About half way up it turned into mostly snow. There were only a few spots with ice. A few in the group went trailhead to summit without traction while others began using traction at the Mount Garfield Trail/Garfield Ridge Trail junction. Everyone wore it going from the summit back down to the junction, where again many took it off. Saw quite a few people out there today, including Franco and several others from the AMC.
