Parking/Access Road Notes:
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Ice - Breakable Crust
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Able to rock hop on the tops of dry rocks this morning, but had to be careful picking a route as lots of rocks had a thin coat of ice. The area around the falls was tricky (see below).
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One duck-under and step-over on upper FW trail and one duck-under on OBP on the Agonies, the duck-unders will be more problematic with a few feet of snow. Otherwise no recent changes - few new signs noted along the way.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Hannah had a good day - she negotiated the icy stretches with ease - dogs with little experience may have issues though. No open water up high for dogs that drink lots.
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Green Marmot shirt about halfway up FW trail and a brown and white hat by one of the signs in the parking lot noted, left both as is

Comments
Comments: Took the loop counter clockwise today because of wind direction, not my usual preference but worked well. Overall not much ice except for a few sections, the worst being on lower FW trail where it criss-crosses the river around the falls area - lots of flow ice, took micros and extra care to navigate. A short stretch on upper FW just before treeline was also micro-worthy. Few other shorter sections by the spring coming off Lafayette, near the lake just before the hut, and on OBP just before the steep Agony drops that had just enough rocks to step on to avoid the ice. Very little ice or snow on the ridge. I realize the conditions will of course change with the storm today and tomorrow, but posting anyways in hopes this helps a bit - the ice will get worse with the forecast of mixed precip, so I'd recommend bring micros and maybe even crampons if attempting this loop this weekend - the areas with the thickest ice flows were a bit iffy with just micros, and some of the steeps may get very icy over the next few days. That being said, great views and a good hike before the storm, blue skies in the morning and summits in the clouds when finished. Only saw one other person on the ridge. Great day out with Hannah.
