| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of parking. Trail entry is at the yellow 'caution' gate at the far end of the parking lot. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All Water crossings are easy rock hops right now. There is a recent reroute to avoid a potentially difficult water crossing. This water crossing is easily recognized. As you stand looking at the crossing there will be a very large boulder to your right. The trail continues to the right of the boulder (avoiding the crossing). There is a bright yellow blaze leading the way. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The trail is eroded, wet and slippery in places, but it is well maintained and easy to follow. There are remains of an illegal fire right off the Cedar Brook trail. It appears to have gotten away from the person who started it and burned a nearby fallen tree. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
My friend's lab mix had no problem maneuvering this trail. |

| Comments: |
Small patches of ice at the beginning of the trail and none at all on the higher elevations. No traction needed. A friend made a video of the hike in Sep 2013. It gives you a very accurate picture of trail conditions. There is much less water on the trail right now but I found this video a great preparation for my hike https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5O4KVOEkIQ. The trail is listed as an easy/moderate trail http://4000footers.com/hancock.shtml. If you are a regular hiker, this is an accurate assessment. |
