Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All water crossing are easily crossed right now.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail is difficult to follow in places, especially on the lower levels where the leaves obscure the trail. There are some false trails at the water crossings. For example at the 2nd water crossing the trail looks like it continues along the left side of the brook, but it doesn’t, you have to cross it. It won’t mess you up too much since these false trails end in about 20 to 50 feet. There is a large climb-over blowdown at the beginning of the trail and another walk over a little further in. Lots of deep mud on the lower levels of the trail. Don’t be fooled by the leaf cover, if there are rocks or crossover logs, use them. There are three easy walkovers after the Scaur Ridge junction.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There are some rocky (boulder) sections of the trail. You may have to help your dog up these sections. The trail is under tree cover most of the time and protected from the wind. If your dog is a good climber, it should be okay.
Bugs
Bugs: flittering moths
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: none

Comments
Comments: This is a beautiful trail. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I wasn't so worried about getting back before dark. I wouldn’t want to come down this trail at night. The lower levels would be difficult to follow in the dark.

There is a wonderful birch forest right before you start the steep section of the trail. It is steep, but I loved the make shift stairs and boulders. Once you get to the Scaur Ridge junction, most of the hard work is done. From here there are just a few steep sections mixed with flat, easy sections. The .7 mile from North Tripyamid to the Middle summit is a quick jaunt with minor up and down sections.

There was no ice at all on the trail, no traction needed.
