Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, July 24, 2010
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: A few when I got there, not surprisingly full when I returned with tourists filling most of the spots. Very little traffic on the Kanc for the season.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: rock hops
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One recent large blowdown that is a summer duck under and a potential winter crawl under. The numerous mud pits, including the dinosaur traps on the ridge, are nice and soupy. Tough butt sledding on the steeps.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Easy dog trail for hot weather with plenty of water, shade and pad friendly surfaces, but those mud pits are lurking. The mighty tough little dog did plenty of sippin' and dippin' in all the brooks. He met one other dog, friendly Opie.
Bugs
Bugs: None.

Comments
Comments: This was Plan C as the higher summits forecast and early cloud cover took Adams & Madison and Mittersell/Cannon off my list. I was probably too cautious, but it's a pleasant stroll & hike and clouds don't really ruin the views. I expected to see more people on the trails. Passed some overnighters and didn't see anyone until the north peak outlook and from there we ran into a few more people coming up as we went down. I'll guess the limited parking kept the hikers down?
