It wasn't the best day for a hike, it really wasn't the best day for an above treeline hike... especially a hike with almost 7.5 miles of above treeline exposure. We took all these things into consideration, and skipped the summits of Monroe and Eisenhower. It was a very windy day, with riming conditions starting just below Slide Peak, and continuing until we dropped into the Eisenhower/Pierce col. Took a short break in the dungeon at Lakes of the Clouds, before pushing south along the ridge. Things started to clear out once reaching Webster, and on our drive back, everything was in the clear. No traction necessary at this time, just be cautious of occasional patches of ice here and there... that and the rimed rocks were slick if you stepped on them wrong!
The section of Webster Cliff Trail between Webster and Saco River Trail was my last remaining section of trail in the 29th edition of the White Mountain Guide! |
