Great day of hiking, first time doing the classic loop and bagging Lincoln/Lafayette. Leaves and rain the night before made some scrambles near the falls a bit slippery on Falling Waters. Icy above Shining Rock Spur in the AM and very windy and cold once we broke above tree-line. Foggy in the morning but cleared up by around 11am and blue skies by the time we reached Lafayette with views forever. Ice made some sections on the ridge slow-going, particularly descending from Lincoln. Looked like the sun had melted ice below the summits by the PM. Crowds were crazy but worth the views. For the first time doing the loop glad we went up Falling Waters and down Old Bridle Path. Views in the PM back up at the ridge we climbed were awesome. |
