Date of Hike: Sunday, October 4, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: No problems getting space in the morning at either trailhead, but the Garfield Trail lot did overflow a bit in the afternoon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings were pretty straight-forward. You have to step on wet rocks, but that's life.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No major issues. A couple blowdowns through the switchbacks on the Garfield Trail, one of which will become awkward once snow starts building. It was too big for my small handsaw or I'd have dealt with it. A large hand/bow saw could probably do the trick.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw several throughout the route, no unusual issues by White Mountain standards for dogs on these trails.
Bugs
Bugs: Nope!

Comments
Comments: Another beautiful Fall hike. We spotted a car, headed up Gale River, and hit the hut in pretty good time. It was great to run into Brent and Lucy at the hut and chat for a while, it has been a long time since I last saw the two of them. Spoiler alert: Galehead still has no view at the summit :) Across the good 'ol Garfield Ridge Trail was the usual roller coaster, but not that bad really. The final climb up Garfield is steep of course, with a waterfall section to boot, but we got it done. There was a stretch where there was a good bit of black ice on the rocks, all avoidable, but it needed to be watched out for. The views from the summit were magnificanet as always. We spent a nice break up there (with jackets as it was chilly plus a 10-15mph breeze), then had the long, but easy hike down to the waiting cars. Thanks Dave, Ryan, and new-to-the-Whites hiker Casey (KC?) for a great hike.
