Don't pass up the Subway side loop off King Ravine trail. Boulder caves are interesting and a good workout.
On Great Gully take care to follow the blazes as the trail makes some turns which aren't always obvious. Good viewpoints of King Ravine from the trail. The point where the trail passes under the overhanging ledge wasn't difficult. Able to pass under with pack. Saw Arnica, Mountain Avens, and goldenrod in bloom in wet areas around brook in gully.
When the White Mountain Guide names a trail wild and scenic it turns out to be a great path. Both the Great Gully and Howker Ridge are described as such and both delivered an enjoyable trek.
