Comments
Comments: lower dry river trail was generally dry. some post irene re routes to watch for. surprisingly cairns have been built to help in places. the footbed on these sections is often herd path like, but easy to follow if paying attention. overall though it needs to be kept in mind the trail is entirely unblazed and vague enough that it could be very difficult to follow in the dark or once the snow flies. farther up towards the shelter there was a fair amount of mud and wet trail even with recent dry weather. dry river shelter 3 is in great condition. some very nice trail above the shelter heading up to the floor of oakes gulf. most of the blowdowns plaguing the trail a few years back have been removed. a few new ones, but nothing too bad. beautiful rugged trail from the floor up the headwall well marked with cairns. monroe loop and ammonoosuc ravine trails were both in nice shape. only a few wet spots on the ammonoosuc ravine trail which made boot treads slippery on the well worn rock.
