Trails
Trails: Signal Ridge Trail, Carrigain Notch Trail, Desolation Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, September 19, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Last spot in lot around 9:30. Usage of road by others later. Sawyer River Road (FR34) narrower than most FR Roads so works well to cautiously approach some corners in case of need to yield.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Carrigain Brook crossing a simple rock step and crossing at bottom of Desolation Tr. the same. First time I can recall not having some level of challenge at the Carrigain Brook crossing. Wow water levels are low.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No issues
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Tower steps too narrow for most dogs to feel comfortable on from what I've seen since redoing tower. Might be a few scrambles on Desolation Tr. that could be too much. Very dry up higher.
Bugs
Bugs: Pestering some but not biting if you kept moving.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Pair of dark boxers on branch on one of first reroutes.

Comments
Comments: Up Desolation--down Signal Ridge. Nice doing this loop for a change; been a while. Desolation steep and rough on upper section but being about as dry as it gets helped much with traction. Love the trail grade and forest changes along the Carrigain Notch Tr.. Quick trip down on a nicely dry Signal Ridge Tr.. Views becoming clearer as the afternoon went on.
