Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We drove in from the Groveton side. There is a yellow road intersection sign on Route 110 with the name of Emerson Road underneath it, so that was easy to find. Nash Stream Road had a sign, and is very briefly a paved road. The gravel road is in good shape but a few miles in you will find a few protruding rocks and loose stones along the way. There are side roads but if you basically stay straight on the main road you should be fine. We had several cars so we parked in a big flat grassy area right before the small bridge over Nash Stream, and it was a short walk from there to the trail/driveway/old logging road.

Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Basically none.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail is in good shape, but it has many baseball-sized (plus or minus) loose rocks along the way. The summit sign is in several pieces and leaning against the cairn but still legible.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: It's a good doggie hike, but BYODW and be careful around the edges of the ledges up top guys.
Bugs
Bugs: Hardly any.

Comments
Comments: This was the 20th year (!) of Ladies' Hiking Weekend for the Girls With Pearls. There was plenty of huffing and puffing and many rest breaks because of the sense of unrelenting steepness of the trail, a bit like the Hale Brook Trail. But the views from the top were completely worth it! At the old fire warden's cabin remains, just go straight up past it on the narrow track through the tall weeds and back into the forest.
