Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This was Piper & Pete's 1st 4000' after one bird chase early on the trail, they were perfect hiking dogs. Pleasant and respectful to other hikers and their dogs, took trail water as needed and were the only dogs, of 5, who braved the grated steps at the summit tower, very proud of them
Bugs
Bugs: Yup, just enough to keep you moving

Comments
Comments: This was Stitches 1st trip to Carrigan, my 2nd though I have little memory and no notation of my 1st ascent. The trail from Sawyer River Rd is well defined and mostly well maintained but for a couple of downed trees. the re-route around the muddy, low section is a pleasant section after which the trail rises gradually through-out with the help of several switch-backs. It's very rugged, rocky trail, in sections, for which my trail runners (w/pack) were not particularly well suited. The Pups performed wonderfully on their 1st full ascent but had definitely reached their limit by trails end. Pete even managed to take a nap on Signal Ridge, where the views were stunning. I'd forgotten, or perhaps never seen due to weather, how impressive the panoramic view from the top of Carrigain can be, amazing. Our initial plan to descend via Desolation Trail was abandoned after doing some quick math and realizing we still had a two mile hike back to Sawyer Pond. In descent, we passed a trail runner and a multi-peakbagger, both on their 2nd summits of the day. Weather was cool and pleasant and we all slept well back at camp
